Went to Tokyo Farmers Market @farmersmarketjp with Robbie Swinnerton @tokyofoodfile and was so excited to see so much organic produce on sale. And one thing that caught my eye were the cooked Japanese sweet potatoes …last visit when I was staying in Tsukiji I would see these sweet potato #yakiimo #石焼き trucks in the evening driving slowly around the streets playing music. Robbie told me that they are are (or were in the age before convenience stores like #familymart) the workers reliable street food, roasted over hot stones and sold by size: my medium sweet potato cost ¥400. You eat them wrapped in paper, skin and all, the flesh has roasted and steamed into something very sweet and soft, with a slight honey flavour. These sweet potatoes were from #Kumamoto #熊本市 #とろあま蜜芋
