Walked into Ginza on my last night to buy some dried seaweed and Japanese-grown rice to bring back to London, and stumbled upon this great little chain diner www.chanpontei.com in the concourse buildings beside Marunouchi station – 〒104-0061 Tokyo, Chuo City, Ginza, 西2−2 銀座インズ2 – where there are lots of small indie shops selling regional Japanese produce selling to (I guess) Japanese commuters. And Chanpontei specialises in dishes from a prefecture near Kyoto. Had a set of fried chicken, gyoza, soup (possibly the ramen base they’re renowned for) , rice and beer. Chicken was bang-on fresh from the oil, utterly crisp and sat on a wire mesh to keep it that way. Quick friendly service, a gem
