Very touched to be given a copy of @sri.owen #indonesianfood from @pavilionbooks, have only spent this morning reading and really very taken with it. It’s combines her life story with recipes, beautifully photographed by #GusFilgate with food by Jane Suthering and Sri, to a greater good: publishers and booksellers are often wary when cookbooks turn autobiographical, as readers in the past have long been intolerant of the mix (even a few months ago an aggrieved op-ed writer wad whining on Twitter “just give me the recipe”). But for me, for you, for so many wiser heads the dry recipe bumper books are as alluring as tinned spam. Lots of recipes to excite, spiced chicken livers cooked with sago in banana leaves is on my to-do list.
