It wasn’t until I was watching the moving film that @obsfood @allanjenkins21 made about @refugeecommunitykitchen to illustrate their Outstanding Achievement win at the #ofmfoodawards2019 that I realised how the terrible situation the refugees at Calais are in had completely slipped from my attention. Ashamed to write that. The distraction of Brexit, Boris, Trump, and more has pushed back those other issues and I didn’t stay on it like I should have. Years back my friend @michael.bakerman had been urging me to get involved, but I didn’t.
So talking with @refugeecommunitykitchen founders Steve Stavrinides & Paula Gallardo, @mollytaithyland & @plaxylocatelli we thought we all should try and help out if we can. I will try and get down there before Christmas, sleeves rolled up and helping however I can. I’m sure if there are other chefs, bakers and cooks reading this there would be a space for you to help too. Join me if you can.
