Daddy Karma: finally got to @karma_bread in Hampstead, Tami Issacs’ bakery wherein the best #challah in London is found. Friend @michael.bakerman persuaded me to go (south Londoners like me need persuasion to cross the river, and vice-versa) though I have wanted to visit since it opened. Tami was off but her dad, Stephen popped in to say hello and show me around. Tami’s lovely sister Sacha runs the front cafe. Ordered off menu (have been doing that a bit lately, it’s an age thing) and had sourdough toast with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Bagelesque you might say. Delicious. They do what looks like superb breakfasts, generous (I know, in a London full of teenytiny “sharing” plates this is a find) and lots of soft dough bunsfilled with custards, chocolate, fruit, all looking perky and delicious. I think the last time I was on that street was back in maybe 2001 with Yotam @ottolenghi looking at a corner site for his very first cafe place before he settled in Notting Hill. The area has changed so much, pretty busy and charming. Must visit again.
