Caught in the rain ️ had to dash back to my old haunting ground #Tsukiji to see if I could rescue a jacket I’d left at the dry cleaners there last October 2019 then lost the ticket. I’d translated all the details into Japanese, copies that onto notes on my phone, then went back somewhat anxiously/hopelessly thinking it would be a drama. Not at all, and to be honest everyone here in Japan had said it’ll be fine. So when I showed the owner my explanation in Japanese – クリーニングチケットを紛失しました。 2019年10月25〜25日にジャケットをお渡ししました。薄茶色のメンズカジュアルジャケットです。 ジャケットの写真があります。- she thought for a minute and then said “Aahhhhh, Dan-san!” And went and got my jacket. I truly blushed with relief: so happy to have it back and felt embarrassed for having doubted she’d find it. Of course she would, she’s a dry-cleaner, lost tickets happen all the time!

So with that anxiety out of the way I was suddenly hungry, so I went back to this little Japanese bakery I’d spied on the last visit. Loading up my tray with comfort food, including a huge freshly fried curry puff, I saw that they had their own curry rice . So I put my sandwiches in my bag – a sub roll filled with stir-fried noodles and vegetables, and a sweet bun filled with chestnuts and bean paste – and sat down for a curry rice and coffee, I think it was ¥300. Delicious. Felt calm, comforted and ready to face the rain again.
